Hi, I'm a member of Black Chicago Democrats meetup and I posted this over there, but I thought this would be of interest to everyone:

Everyone who wants to see progressive opinion put back on the Tribune's comics page needs to write to the Tribune now. After The Boondocks was ended, I thought "at least we still have Candorville." But a few days ago they cancelled that too. They also cancelled the conservative "Prickly City" which is no big loss, but probably also cancelled Candorville so they would look "balanced."

If you've never read Candorville, you've been missing out. You can see it at www.candorville.com. It's like "The Boondocks" grown up, and it's been burning up the page for the past few years, talking about New Orleans, voter disenfranchisement, and never letting up on Bush or Congress, but it's always funny too.

This is a travesty that they've gotten rid of not only the last strip to feature Black characters, but the last truly progressive voice on the comics page. I read on the Candorville website that it was also dropped in Seattle and Detroit, but when that happened, so many readers wrote in to complain that it was quickly brought back. Let's make that happen in Chicago too.

Please write to the Tribune and tell them to bring back Candorville. I wrote to Barbara Schaffner, who I think is the comics editor, and to their general letters to the editor e-mail. Barbara Schaffner's e-mail is BSchaffner@tribune.com and their letters to the editor form is at this address (shortened 'cause it's way too long): http://tinyurl.com/8r...
