During the presidential campaign, Obama for America was the organizing group for Obama volunteers. Now that Obama is in the White House, the task of coordinating volunteers to further the policies that America voted for in 2008 has passed to Organizing for America. The Regional Field Director for Organizing for America, Ryan Irving, will be our special guest at the June Meetup. In fact, Ryan is not just our guest - he's joined our group! Health care reform is probably the most immediately vital issue that Ryan will discuss with us, but he has expressed his willingness to talk about whatever issues we care to bring up. Mostly, he wants to hear what we're interested in, and what we've been up to here in Jackson. This promises to be an interesting evening. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!

Brian Wheeler, Citizen Patriot editorial writer and editor of Voice of the People, is rescheduled as our featured guest this month. Our error caused a change in last month's plans, but now we have our poop in a group. Join us as we discuss the editorial process at the Cit Pat, how your opinions get printed in the paper, and how you might contribute to the web discussions. Like most newspapers, the Cit Pat is under increasing economic pressure, and changes are ongoing. Brian can help us understand what’s happening to our paper, and what we might expect. Our democracy depends on a free press and an informed citizenry. Let’s talk about it!

Oops! Brian Wheeler, Citizen Patriot editorial writer and editor of Voice of the People, will NOT be our featured guest this month. I, your Asst. Organizer, Paul G. Thomas, managed to confirm arrangements with Brian for the wrong date. Turns out that Thursday, April 23, is Brian's birthday and, for some reason, he'd rather spend it with his wife and kids than with us! OK, fine. That means we can spend our Meetup talking about Brian behind his back. It'll be fun. So if you've already RSVPed "Yes," you should still come. If you've RSVPed "No," you should now change to "Yes" and join the Cit Pat bashing! Brian has agreed to be our featured guest in May, and I look forward to hearing from him. In the meantime, we have plenty to talk about on April 23, so plan to spend a couple of hours with fellow progressives discussing the state of the newspaper industry, the state of the nation, and the state of the state. There's plenty to talk about. Hope to see you there.
